About the Role

Working as an Endocrinology and Diabetes Advanced Trainee 

Endocrinology is the study of hormones and hormone producing tissues, both their normal physiology and their pathophysiology. The specialty of clinical endocrinology encompasses the diagnosis and management of disorders of the endocrine system. Hormones from the body’s major gland systems (thyroid, pancreas, gonads, adrenal and pituitary) regulate growth, metabolism, blood pressure and reproduction, as well as diverse other functions. The spectrum of endocrine disorders includes diabetes and its complications; thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disease; gonadal disorders and infertility; neuroendocrine conditions; benign and malignant glandular tumours; disorders of growth; genetic and congenital glandular dysfunction; lipid and nutritional abnormalities; menopausal disorders; and osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.

Medicine Registrar Runs

Medicine Registrar runs in the Auckland region are six months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. Example run descriptions for the 2025 training year can be viewed on the Auckland Doctors website. About you

Advanced Training in Endocrinology and Diabetes

  • You will need to have passed the FRACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2025.
  • These positions will only be offered to those who have passed the clinical exam and completed basic training. For those completing the exam later this year and should you not pass the exam, you will no longer be eligible for advanced training position and you may be considered for a run allocation.
  •  You will need to be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Six month allocations for those interested in Endocrinology and Diabetes experience as part of their training in General Medicine or specialty training

  •  You will need to have passed the FRACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2025.
  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Support and assistance with this process is provided.

Please note: Priority is given to those who are Advanced Trainees having passed their Part 1 Exams. 

If you are already an Advanced Trainee in Endocrinology and Diabetes and a current employee in the Auckland region, you do not need to apply via this job listing. You will have independent meetings with your specialty.

Important: Even if you are a current RMO employee in the Auckland region seeking a six month allocation or applying for advanced training in Endocrinology and Diabetes, you will need to formally apply.
