    Kia ora and warm greetings, if you are about to qualify as an Occupational Therapist and if you are interested in mental health, we would like to invite you to apply to our New Graduate programme!

    Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora - Counties Manukau is offering new graduate roles to Occupational Therapy students who are currently in their final year of study and would like to continue to do post graduate study in 2025. The Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science in Mental Health and Addictions at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is part of the foundational papers to start your career in the mental health and addictions sector. You will be a part of the New Entry to Specialist Programme (NESP) group of new graduate clinicians, this includes the nursing cohort. You will be supported with group supervision and professional supervision. You will be given time for study leave while working full-time.     We have new graduate roles in the following areas: 

    (please indicate your preferred team from 1st, 2nd, 3rd)

    • Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The Mental Health Services for Older People located at Middlemore Hospital is a multi-disciplinary Mental Health service, consisting of an inpatient ward and community team, and is specifically tailored to those aged 65 years and over, although people under this age are sometimes seen due to their presentation. This role will be split over the 2 teams (first 6 months on the ward and next 6 months in the community).
    • Intensive Community Team (ICT). The Intensive Community team is a recovery focused team who are committed to excellent care and the best outcomes for their service users. The service provides assertive community-based interventions for service users who have high and complex needs within the Counties Manukau catchment area.
    • Tiaho Mai. Tiaho Mai inpatient unit provides high quality and comprehensive acute mental health assessment, treatment interventions and support for adults aged between 18-64years old. The unit provides treatment of care for adults experiencing acute mental health and co-existing drug and alcohol issues. The occupational therapy role includes individual assessments and group interventions plus whanau engagement.

    Essential:

    • Completing your Occupational Therapy degree at a New Zealand University in 2024
    • Ability to gain registration and an APC by January 2025
    • A full, clean driver’s licence

    Important notes:

    • Interviews will be held on 13th and 15th November 2024
    • You must be available for an interview if you wish to apply. If you are not in Auckland on this date, interview can be conducted via MS Teams
    • The start date for these roles will be 20th January 2025, when you will commence with your two-week onboarding, offered by one of our highly experienced clinicians

    We do expect you to complete your Mental Health & Addictions post-grad certificate with support with time off and funding.
