An exciting opportunity exists for a Social Worker to provide social work intervention and support to the Surgical/Women’s Health/Paediatric’s Social Work Team at Middlemore Hospital. Experience in Child Protection social work would be an advantage. This position sits with the community midwifery social work team.

Your understanding of health and disability issues together with sound counselling and a robust understanding of frontline trauma intervention skills, will enable you to work with patients and their families in a therapeutic and holistic way.

A commitment to working with other disciplines within a multidisciplinary team environment, excellent understanding of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi, and an understanding of Tikanga Maaori or a Pacific Island language would be an advantage.

As a Social Worker to this team, you can look forward to working in a challenging multi-disciplinary environment where you will be expected to contribute to the development of bi-cultural Social Work practice.

Essential:

  • Recognised Social Work Qualification (Minimum qualification level B) and Registration
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience
  • Sound knowledge and skills in child protection and women’s health social work and knowledge of the relevant health care legislation
  • Awareness/knowledge of our community’s needs
  • Able to provide strength based, culturally appropriate support and interventions
  • Full, clean driver’s licence
