Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

The Infection/ AMS team provide pharmaceutical services across the organisation including supporting Adult and Paediatric Infectious Disease, Clinical Microbiology and Outpatient Antibiotic treatment (OPAT) Services. This position will work alongside the Infection Lead and Senior Pharmacists together with our rotational pharmacist. In this position you will be integral to the delivery of a high level, comprehensive and professional clinical pharmacy service to improve antimicrobial use and outcomes across the entire organisation. The role will also support service delivery to General Medicine or another Medical Specialty ward. 

Te Toka Tumai is an innovative, professionally stimulating work environment where you’ll enjoy providing specialist support to various specialities on antimicrobial use including solid organ and bone marrow transplant services, regional cancer care and specialist surgical services as well as busy General Medicine and Older Persons Health services. Infection Services also provide comprehensive multi-disciplinary care to the largest regional outpatient cohort of people living with HIV in Aotearoa. You will work alongside clinical leaders to help to drive and influence strategies to best optimise patient outcomes.

There are a number of established opportunities for professional development, including integrated teaching and education with the regional infection clinicians. The Infection/AMS team provide education to both Te Toka Tumai clinicians but also to the University of Auckland undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We’re sure you’ll also relish the chance to get involved in the development of protocols and guidelines, and education and training of pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team in order to facilitate good antimicrobial use and promote AMS as part of everyone’s practice.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

An enthusiastic clinical pharmacist, committed to furthering yourself and your peers with the ability to role model the Te Toka Tumai values, you will come to us with relevant clinical pharmacy experience and a post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy is desirable. You will demonstrate the ability to work through complex clinical situations in a collaborative team, whilst showing drive, enthusiasm and innovation. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. The successful applicant should have the ability to be flexible, work well in a team and live the values of Te Toka Tumai. You’ll be either registered or be eligible for registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate.

  • Qualified with a B.Pharm degree with NZ registration or applicable NZ recognised qualification from overseas, postgraduate clinical qualifications are desirable.
  • Registered, or be eligible for registration, with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • 3+ years hospital pharmacy experience
  • Quick to pick up new concepts and strong attention to detail
  • Drive, enthusiasm and initiative with excellent organisational and inter-personal skills are essential
  • Ability to work in a bicultural environment and knowledge of the acute hospital environment
  • Pro-active and can-do approach with the ability to be flexible and work autonomously as well as in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to develop close working relationships across disciplines
