Bowel Screening Saves Lives: Health Promoter – Pacific Community 1FTE

Fixed Term – Parental Leave Cover ending June 2025

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora provides the national bowel screening programme (NBSP) to eligible people aged 60- 74 years. 

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora expects to achieve bowel cancer screening rates of 60% for all eligible Pacific men and women between the ages of 60 to 74 years.

The current participation rate for eligible Pacific men and women living in the Waitematā area is 39%. 

Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Waitemata is looking for a resourceful, highly motivated strong team player, to raise awareness and participation of the free national bowel screening programme in our area including making outreach phone calls to eligible participants who have not returned their bowel screening test kit and assisting at community health promotion.

The ideal candidate would have experience in health promotion/community engagement and call centre work and be fluent in at least one Pacific language. Knowledge of Pacific cultural practices, social norms and health issues is essential and you must be available for evening and week-end work, both locally and across the wider Auckland region when required.

Strong relationship skills and links within the Pacific community are important, as is the ability to engage well with our eligible age group, 60-74 year olds.

This position is full or part time working up to 80 hours per fortnight and is for a fixed-term basis covering a staff member on parental leave until June 2025. We are based in Takapuna however we work across the whole Waitemata region.
