Core Social Worker - Rapua te Ao Waiora, Mental Health & Addictions
Full Time, Permanent
Remuneration as per PSA Allied Health MECA guidelines
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
The Opportunity:
Are you interested in working with a community mental health & addictions team that has been specifically developed to meet the needs of the Manurewa/Papakura locality?
This is an excellent opportunity for social workers to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team that serves the mental health needs of adults living in the Manurewa/Papakura catchment area.
We are a community-based team providing specialist mental health care for individuals with serious mental health conditions, along with consultation and liaison with primary care partners for those with mild to moderate concerns. We collaborate with our non-government organisation partners in our locality to ensure that our whaiora and whaanau receive equitable and quality services.
This role involves delivering a whaanau-centered, safe, and effective social work service within an interdisciplinary team. You will work within a specific clinical service or across multiple services, providing social work support to individuals, their whaanau, and the wider community. This includes conducting ongoing psychosocial assessments, delivering interventions, and supporting a designated caseload of service users.
As a Mental Health Clinician in Community Mental Health, you will provide advocacy and support for whaiora experiencing mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will include assessing needs, developing care plans, coordinating services, and connecting whaiora and whaanau with essential community resources such as housing, healthcare, and social support. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, monitor progress, and provide crisis interventions when necessary, ensuring whaiora receive holistic, compassionate care that promotes stability, recovery, and overall well-being.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver services in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner, in alignment with designated Social Work standards of practice, organisational policy, National Mental Health Standards, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The ability to provide culturally appropriate specialised assessment and intervention for Maaori is a key requirement.
We are seeking an experienced Social Worker with a background in mental health, preferably in a clinical setting, who holds a current Annual Practicing Certificate. Experience in mental health and addiction services is essential, along with a strong knowledge of community resources and networks within Counties Manukau.
Essential:
- NZ SWRB registration

- Minimum of 1-2 years experience as a Mental Health Social Worker, preferably in a clinical setting
- Full clean driver’s licence
What's in it for you?
- Annual practicing certificate is refunded
