Would you like to make a real difference in mental health & addictions services by supporting and contributing to the education of the workforce? The Mental Health educator team is seeking a Consumer Educator who will form an integral part in the development of the workforce focusing on this sector.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in the development of staff within Counties Manukau District, Mental Health Services as well as the wider professional development teams of People and Professional Development. This will include promoting the reduction of stigma and discrimination around mental health and addiction. You will participate in design, planning, delivery and evaluation of education for the development of the workforce.

We are seeking a people-focussed individual with lived experience as a consumer of Mental Health services. You will demonstrate a commitment to improving service users experience through professional development of the Counties Manukau District workforce and actively contributing to the delivery of Safe Practice and Effective Communication training for all Mental Health & Addiction staff. This is a key function of the role.

You will be a dynamic individual with proven understanding and experience in the delivery of adult education and demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication skills will be required, as will the need to be resilient within a challenging and changing environment. An awareness and commitment to connecting with both internal and wider consumer networks is core to this significant role.

You will work as part of the Professional Development Team Mental Health and ARHOP. The position is available at 0.6FTE (24 hours per week), however exact hours to be worked can be negotiated at interview stage.

Essential:

  • Experience as a consumer of mental health services
  • Familiarity with the mental health clinical environment
  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan development experience
  • Adult Education knowledge and delivery skills
  • Full, clean drivers licence
