About the Role

We are inviting applications from registrars or fellows, who would like to train and work in NZ’s national heart transplant and mechanical support program. This role offers a unique opportunity to train in all aspects of heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and management of patients with end-stage heart failure, referred from throughout the country. Aspects of the position include work-up of patients referred for transplantation, involvement in the transplant process and early and long-term care and follow-up.

This is a fixed term full-time position – with 0.6 FTE focussed on advanced heart failure management, and a further 0.4 FTE to pursue an area of sub-specialty interest within cardiology (for example imaging) or for cardiovascular research, the latter following appropriate research grant applications (this will require discussion by the applicant with the University of Auckland Heart Health Research Group). The position is for 12 months commencing in February 2026 or soon thereafter as agreed.
