Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Trainee Sonographer, Radiology
Taranaki Base Hospital, New Plymouth
Up to 1.0 FTE
This position is located in our well-equipped ultrasound department where we undertake a wide range of investigations including general abdominal, obstetric, gynaecological, musculoskeletal and vascular studies. This position will commence as soon as possible and will involve full time commitment to study and attendance at a remote training facility for academic tuition. The remainder of the training will occur in the department under the tutelage of our highly experienced Sonographers.
Our ultrasound team prides itself on being friendly and supportive and works with the people of our community to promote, encourage and enable their health, well-being and independence. This role is best suited to a person who values teamwork, respects individual needs and is motivated by excellent clinical outcomes.
We have a well-equipped department with six Philips Epiq’s
Our Sonographers work primarily at our Taranaki Base Hospital site but do also rotate to provide scanning at one of our satellite sites.
We are looking for a trainee Sonographer with excellent communication skills, a high standard of patient care, enthusiasm, and the ability to work efficiently in our busy department in a team of five others.

Moū - About you
We are looking for an applicant with excellent communication skills, a high standard of patient care, enthusiasm, and the ability to work efficiently in our busy department in our team. You must have a passion for Ultrasound. You must be able to show a commitment to full time study and the ability to manage between practical (work commitments) and academic demands. The successful applicant must be highly organised with a strong focus on patient care.
This role would be suited to an MIT who is prepared to work hard and will demonstrate several of the Te Whatu Ora Taranaki values in their everyday work life.
You will have:
- NZ registration and a current annual practising certificate.
- Excellent technical skills and knowledge.
- Well-developed communication, critical thinking skills and a commitment to family centred care.
- Be capable of working independently and within a small team.
- A strong commitment to quality healthcare.
You will also be versatile and able to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
