About the Role

  • As our population expands and the number of national and international events held in Taupō grows year on year we have designed a more dynamic and sustainable medical model which provides an exciting clinical pathway for training registrars who want to work in a relaxed and collegial environment with excellent senior medical officers, nursing, allied and management support.
  • We are seeking six new registrars to join our existing two registrars who will work a 24/7 roster of either rural hospital medicine (ward, clinic and ED) or ED only based on your preferences and experience.
  • The new positions will be available from the start of Quarter two being 28 April 2025. If you are committed to a current run and won’t be available to move until later in the year we are happy to be flexible with your start date.

About Taupō Hospital

  • We are an accredited DRHMNZ training site for a Level 3 Rural Hospital Medicine attachment and an ACRRM accredited training site for secondary and emergency care.
  • We can also support FACEM trainees to complete a Special Skills Placement. If you are not in a recognised training programme but are keen to work in a non-training position, we would love to hear from you.
  • Taupō hospital has a 24/7 Emergency Department, inpatient unit, primary birthing unit, theatre and outpatient clinics with many community health services on site. We have onsite laboratory and radiology services with a new CT scanner.

About you

As a Registrar working in a rural hospital ED, we would expect you to have the following experience:

  • PGY3/FH3 and above - completed a variety of runs i.e. medical, surgical and paediatric runs
  • Prior Emergency Medicine runs in PGY2+/FH2+ - experience in a rural or provincial hospital would be ideal
  • Completed ACLS, APLS, NLS and ATLS equivalents (i.e. EMST, ETM)
  • Be eligible for Medical Council of New Zealand registration
