About the Role

Reporting to the Group Director Operations, the Surgical Services Manager will provide operational management for the Surgical Services department, made up of anaesthesia, general surgery and orthopaedics.

The Surgical Services Manager will oversee service delivery and lead the implementation of new strategies, drive agreed projects within the service and provide the ongoing strategic direction for their portfolio. This will be achieved in partnership with Direct Reports, Clinical Directors, Heads of Department, and Nursing and Allied Health Leads.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need an understanding of and a proven ability in related areas:

  • Accountable and responsible for operational management and strategic planning for the Surgical Services department
  • Strategic oversight to facilitate the provision of services to meet the current and future needs of consumers
  • Lead the development of quality business management practices for services that are compliant with legislation, standards, best practice protocols and Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki’s policy, procedures, protocols and guidelines
  • Productive relationships are established and maintained with internal and external stakeholders

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 5 years’ post graduate leadership and business management experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the health sector
  • Change management experience
  • Project management experience
  • Quality improvement knowledge
  • Knowledge of the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi with a commitment to bi-culturalism
  • Ability to work in a complex changing environment and able to juggle multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
