Help shape the future of cancer care in Northland

Following the official opening of Northland’s new Radiation Oncology Service in June 2026, we are seeking passionate Radiation Therapists to join our growing team. A limited number of roles are still available for those wanting to help shape this new service from the ground up.

The service is now open and delivering radiation therapy closer to home for Northland patients and whānau. This is a rare opportunity to join a brand-new service from its earliest stage of operation, working in a purpose-built facility with leading-edge technology while helping shape the future of cancer care in the region.

Imagine combining meaningful clinical work with an exceptional lifestyle. Northland offers stunning beaches, a subtropical climate, short commutes, affordable living and a welcoming community — giving you more time to enjoy what matters most outside of work

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

As a Staff Radiation Therapist, you will deliver safe, accurate and compassionate radiation therapy across CT simulation, treatment planning and treatment delivery.

Working in a modern, purpose-built department, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care while contributing to the ongoing development of a new regional service. As an early member of the Whangārei Radiation Oncology team, you will play an important role in shaping service delivery and building a strong foundation for future growth.

You will also have opportunities to contribute to quality improvement, service development, ongoing learning, and regional collaboration across Te Pūriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service, supported by the expertise and infrastructure of the wider Auckland Regional Cancer and Blood Service.

To learn more about the role, please view the position description - Staff Radiation Therapist

For further information about the role, please contact Prashika Poonam, RT Clinical Team Leader –prashika.poonam@tewhatuora.govt.nz

About the Team / Service / Location

The Whangārei Radiation Oncology Service is part of Te Pūriri o Te Ora Regional Cancer and Blood Service, the largest cancer and blood service in Aotearoa New Zealand, providing care to approximately 40% of the country’s population.

Our purpose-built department is now operational, bringing world-class radiation therapy closer to home for Northland patients and whānau and reducing the need for travel to Auckland.

You will join a newly established and highly supportive multidisciplinary Radiation Oncology team that includes:

  • Māori Health Specialist Radiation Therapist
  • Clinical Applications Specialist Radiation Therapist
  • Senior and Specialist Pre-Treatment Radiation Therapists
  • Senior Treatment Radiation Therapists
  • Clinical Team Leader
  • Dedicated regional Clinical Applications support
  • Dedicated training and development support

You will be joining more than a new vacancy — you will be part of a well-supported service with strong clinical leadership, specialist expertise and established development pathways.

The department features advanced technology including:

  • Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator with HyperSight and SGRT
  • Siemens SOMATOM X.cite CT Scanner
  • ARIA Oncology Information System
  • RayStation Treatment Planning System

Radiation Therapists work across a range of modern techniques including DIBH, EBRT, IGRT, SGRT, VMAT and stereotactic radiotherapy.
