About the Role

As a Paediatric Community Nurse, Specialty Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled paediatric nursing care to a defined group of tamariki in the community to ensure optimum health outcomes are achieved and an excellent standard of care is provided. This role will require advanced paediatric nursing knowledge and skills, with case management and coordination.

This role will be based at Bay of Islands Hospital, working in the Mid North community as part of the Paediatric Community Nursing Service in Te Tai Tokerau, working 7 days a fortnight.

This position is a fixed-term role, ending in January 2027. Secondment opportunities may be considered.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Paediatric Community Nursing Team is based in Whangarei Hospital, at the Child Health Centre with satellites at the rural hospitals. The team provide expert paediatric nursing care and support in the community to tamariki and their whanau when they have come under the care of Paediatric services. The nursing service provides assessment and follow-up post-acute discharge from hospital, as well as providing ongoing support and monitoring of tamariki with chronic illnesses, medical technology dependent and/or a disability.

About you

As a Specialty Clinical Nurse, you need to have excellent communication and time management skills, who is skilled in relating to and building rapport with others with a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and providing a high standard of care.

  • New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate
  • Relevant Post Graduate Certificate
  • PDRP at designated Senior Nurse level, or Level 4
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the specialty
  • Proficient level of computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in the health setting

We’re looking for a motivated and adaptable individual who brings cultural competency to their nursing practice. You will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of how to apply this in a healthcare setting, show initiative, and maintain a positive, professional attitude in all situations.
