Specialist Medical Officer/Gastroenterologist, Gastroenterology (Fixed Term)

The Department of Gastroenterology at Middlemore Hospital invites applications for a Gastroenterologist. This is a fixed term position covering for Sabbatical leave (between July 2026 and January 2027). The start date and hours are negotiable.

Middlemore Hospital is an accredited, 800-bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and it is the main acute medicine centre for the region of over 550,000 people.

About the Role

Our Department of Gastroenterology currently operates 4 endoscopy procedure rooms and we offer a large volume of outpatient services and on-site gastroenterology diagnostic services. Our Gastroenterology Service provides high quality under-graduate and post-graduate teaching with an active research program in place. You will work within a team including 17 other Gastroenterologists.

Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Responsibilities include, endoscopy, acute general gastroenterology care on the gastroenterology ward and the out of hours gastroenterology roster. There will also be contribution to the provision of outpatient clinics.

About you

We are seeking a colleague who strives to advance the gastroenterology department particularly the Hepatology service.

Applicants must have suitable training and experience in Gastroenterology and should be / be able to be registered with the New Zealand Medical Council.
