About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Simulation and Clinical Skills Training Technician to join our team based at Awhina Waitākere Simulation Centre, our dedicated simulation facility, with responsibilities spanning across both North Shore Hospital and Waitākere Hospital. This role is essential in supporting the delivery of high-quality simulation-based and clinical skills education across these two sites. As a key member of the Clinical Education Team, you will be responsible for:
- Setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Laerdal simulation manikins and task trainers, including SimMan, SimJunior, and related accessories
- Supporting audiovisual systems used during simulation and debriefing sessions
- Preparing and resetting training rooms and simulation spaces to ensure smooth session flow
- Assisting with moulage, scenario programming, and realistic environment setup
- Managing inventory, ordering clinical consumables, and ensuring equipment readiness
- Providing on-site technical support during training sessions and simulation scenarios
- Collaborating with facilitators to ensure simulation delivery aligns with educational objectives
This is a hands-on, technical role that plays a vital part in the learner experience and helps ensure the quality and effectiveness of our simulation-based training.
This role is covered by the PSA National Health Administration Workers collective agreement and is mapped to band 4.

About You
To succeed in this role, you’ll ideally bring experience working with healthcare simulation technology, clinical training tools, or in a similar AV/technical support role. Familiarity with Laerdal manikins (including SimMan and SimJunior) and working knowledge of AV systems will be highly regarded — but training will be provided for the right candidate.
You will be someone who enjoys problem-solving, is highly organised, and can communicate effectively with a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
You will also bring:
- Solid technical aptitude with the ability to operate and maintain simulation equipment and AV systems
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and a willingness to learn
- A flexible, team-oriented attitude with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
