About the Role
We are seeking an inspirational and forward-thinking Service Manager to lead our Anaesthesia and Pain Services — a collaborative leader who champions innovation, inspires teams, and delivers meaningful outcomes for the communities we serve.
Reporting to the General Manager, Surgery, Anaesthesia and Perioperative Services (SAPS), you will lead the operational and strategic delivery of Anaesthesia and Pain Services. Working in partnership with the Clinical Head of Department and key clinical and operational leaders, you will;
- Lead, Inspire and Innovate – Partner with passionate Clinical Heads and senior leaders to lead a high-performing team committed to our patients need.
- Be a Voice for Equity – Champion initiatives that improve health outcomes for Māori, Pacific and communities with health disparities.
- Shape Strategy, Drive Change – Influence key service planning decisions and contribute to the future design and delivery of our perioperative services.
- Champion People & Culture – Foster a workplace built on kindness, collaboration, and growth. Lead with empathy to boost staff engagement, enhance job satisfaction, and support meaningful professional development at every level.
About You

- Extensive Leadership Experience - Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing complex healthcare operations, including responsibility for staff leadership, financial oversight, and transformational change.
- A Track Record of Driving Innovation – Proven ability to build and sustain a culture of performance, transparency, and continuous improvement with a strong customer- and patient-focused mindset.
- Expertise in Systems Improvement – Demonstrated success in designing and implementing sustainable processes that lift performance, improve patient flow, and enhance service quality.
- Inspirational People Leadership – A collaborative and empowering leadership style, with experience guiding teams through change, building capability, setting clear goals, and celebrating success.
- Operational Excellence Under Pressure – A resilient and strategic thinker, confident managing complexity, navigating risk, and making sound decisions to ensure high-quality service delivery.
