About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for you to step into a leadership role at Te Pūriri o Te Ora, where your skills will directly contribute to improving cancer care across the Northern Region. As a Senior Project Manager, you will be at the forefront of implementing the Northern Regional Cancer Service Delivery Plan and supporting the delivery of new cancer medicines and treatments.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive and deliver key initiatives across Medical and Radiation Oncology and Haematology, ensuring alignment with regional goals.
  • Lead complex projects that involve multi-disciplinary workstreams, major capital investment, and government gateway reviews.
  • Partner with district health teams, clinicians, service managers, and primary care providers to improve access, equity, and outcomes for people affected by cancer.
  • Guide and support change through effective project and change management strategies, ensuring our workforce is engaged and supported through transformation.

You will play a key role in delivering the 2025/26 Cancer Services Work Programme, including Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) delivery, the national faster cancer treatment targets, the Haematology model of care, and radiation oncology capital planning. Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the name that has been gifted to our Regional Cancer and Blood Services by Kahurangi Rangimārie Naida Glavish of Ngāti Whātua, Chief Advisor Tikanga for Te Toka Tumai. Te Pūriri o Te Ora means "the Pūriri tree of wellbeing" and speaks to the many qualities and gifts of the Pūriri tree and our aspiration to provide a place of healing and wellbeing for our communities.

Based at Te Papakāinga Atawhai o Tāmaki, Te Pūriri o Te Ora is the leading provider of cancer care across Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau, serving over two million people. We are home to Aotearoa’s largest oncology unit and provide a wide range of services including Medical and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Cancer and Blood Research, Genetic Health, the National Gastrointestinal Cancer Service, and specialist cancer psychological and social support.

About you

You will bring a recognised project management qualification (such as PRINCE2) and at least five years’ experience leading projects in a large and complex healthcare setting. You’ll have proven expertise in service improvement, clinical redesign, and change management, ideally within the public health sector.

Your ability to build strong relationships will be key, as you’ll be working closely with a wide range of stakeholders to influence and drive meaningful change. A commitment to equity and a genuine understanding of how to apply and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your everyday practice will be essential. Above all, you’ll bring energy, resilience, and a strong personal drive to deliver results, underpinned by manaakitanga, integrity and professionalism.
