About the Role

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will drive financial performance and minimise financial risk. The role oversees that finance deliverables including monthly reporting, cash flow management and the collation of budgets and forecasts are complete in a timely manner.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily banking activities ensuring controls continue to safeguard district assets.
  • Prepare and monitor Cashflow forecast
  • Prepare and review Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Ensure financial statement information is prepared in accordance with accounting standards, legislative requirements and organisational policies.
  • Manage the annual financial reporting process and associated external audits.
  • Co-ordinate External and Internal Audits.
  • Prepare responses for any Official Information requests pertaining to financial information within required timeframes.
  • Comply with statutory compliance for GST, FBT and PAYE.
  • Ensure that data quality standards are in place and that they are followed.
  • Deliver Health Trust accounting, transaction and audit processes.
  • Provide assistance to Finance and the wider organisation as required.

About the Team

As a member of the Finance team, this role has shared accountability for:

  • Steward trust and public funds responsibly across the $1.4 billion Hospital and Specialist Services budget.
  • Provide consistent, accurate, and timely financial information for decision-making.
  • Partner with operational leaders to support clinical and service sustainability.
  • Nationally led, regionally delivered, locally responsive – balancing standardisation with customer requirements.
  • A trusted strategic partner rather than purely transactional, advising executives on productivity, investment, and cost sustainability.
  • Digitally enabled, using common platforms, shared services, and data analytics to improve forecasting and resource allocation.
  • Sustainable and future-focused, ensuring the health system can live within its means while still delivering equity of access and outcomes.

 

About you

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll bring proven experience in senior financial accounting roles, along with a deep understanding of financial principles and practices. You have a strong track record as a senior accountant.

As a Chartered Accountant (or equivalent), you combine professional credibility with a practical, solutions-focused approach – ensuring both the big picture and the finer details are taken care of.

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably with a major in accounting.
  • Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience preferably in a large organisation
