About the Role
As a Security Officer with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui, you’ll play a critical role in keeping our hospitals, staff, patients and visitors safe. You’ll ensure our facilities remain secure, respond to incidents promptly and professionally, and maintain a visible presence that supports safety across all areas of the hospital campus.
Your responsibilities will include regular patrols, CCTV monitoring, supporting emergency responses, maintaining accurate incident reporting, and upholding safety procedures at all times. This position requires a calm, confident communicator with strong situational awareness and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, people‑focused service.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You’ll be part of the Security Services team based across Hawke’s Bay health facilities. The team works around the clock to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and whānau.
Security Officers work closely with the Call Centre, Duty Managers, Facilities staff, clinical teams and external partners such as Police, Fire and emergency responders. The team operates with professionalism, strong communication and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and respectful engagement with all members of the community.

About you
You’ll bring professionalism, sound judgement and a people‑centred approach to safety. You will have:
- Certificate in Health & Wellbeing Level 2 (or working toward higher qualifications).
- A current Certificate of Approval (COA) or the ability to obtain one.
- Experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
- Ability to remain calm, respectful and composed in challenging or high‑pressure situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from all backgrounds.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to meet the demands of an active security role.
- A commitment to safe work practices, accurate reporting and excellent teamwork.
Desired skills include: experience in security or a related industry, radio/communications experience, first aid or firefighting training, CCTV operations experience, and basic computer skills.
