Anatomic Pathology Service (APS), part of Te Whatu Ora, provides specialist diagnostic histology and cytology services to Auckland and beyond. We process specimens from over 4,000 private specialists, surgical hospitals, and general practitioners. To support this breadth of work, our Consultant Pathologists collaborate closely with an experienced team of scientists and technicians to deliver high-quality, timely results for patients and clinicians.
About the Role
In this role you will provide daily management of the histology administration team and the scientific and technical team. The role also supports the Operations Manager in the delivery of strategic objectives for Anatomical Pathology Services (APS). Reporting to an Operations Manager the prime focus of your role will be to ensure all materials and resources required are available and appropriate for the department.
You will also be responsible for quality, compliance and health and safety systems, fostering an equitable and safe work environment and a culture of continuous improvement and staff wellbeing. This includes ensuring that our people receive the professional mentoring and development to thrive in their careers.
Opportunities will also be present for you to work collaboratively and cross functionally in initiatives as well as drawing upon the Quality and Compliance team and Scientific and Technical Professional Lead to assist in career pathway discussions.

About you
You will be an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist with current registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand. Ideally you will also have a tertiary qualification in health, general management or quality assurance.
Strong working knowledge of a histology laboratory is essential for your success.
You will have strong leadership and proven people management skills with an ability to read people as you will be required to lead the recruitment of new staff.
You will be able to demonstrate your prior experience of leading process improvements and projects.
You will be familiar with laboratory quality standards and processes and will have a working knowledge of financial systems within the health sector.
You will be adept at relationship building and will enjoy organising people and resources, juggling responsibilities and achieving demanding yet exciting goals.
