This population swells significantly over the summer holidays as the wider country makes their way to their favourite vacation destinations across the Coromandel.

Our hospital provides a 19-bed consultant-led emergency department seeing 18,000 patients per year which is supported by 24/7 laboratory and radiology services, including CT. The inpatient unit has 48 beds split between general medicine, low acuity surgery and rehabilitation. We maintain a busy day surgery service and outpatient clinic with our own consultants providing treatment in addition to specialist consultants who visit daily during the week and provide a range of specialist services.

Our region boasts some of the country’s most spectacular surf and swimming beaches and is a haven for mountain bikers, divers, fishers, hikers and outdoors enthusiasts. Thames is less than two hours’ drive to the major centres of Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua and their airports.
