About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity with the ongoing development of the Surgical High Acuity Area (HAA). We are expanding into an eight bedded area running 24/7, following on from a pilot recently undertaken. The Surgical HAA will be providing care for post-operative/procedure patients who are assessed as high risk and require close observation and monitoring. The Surgical HAA is designed to provide a higher level of nursing care and medical interventions for the first 48 hours post-surgery to enable positive patient outcomes.
The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the NZNO agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), shift allowances, professional development and wellness support.

About the Team/Service:
Surgical HAA is located on level 3 Menzies at Waikato hospital main campus in a newly refurbished unit. The unit is designed for patients who are not critically ill however require close monitoring post recovery to receive timely interventions based upon best medical practice. The team will report into the CNM Ward M04 and an ACNM will coordinate daily bed flow.
About you:
We are looking for passionate, energetic registered nurses who would like to be part of expanding and developing our Surgical HAA, who have surgical and/or Critical care experience. We have part time permanent rostered rotating positions available.
If you are an experienced registered nurse looking for a new and exciting opportunity, who is flexible, enjoys change and wanting to be part of a new team dynamic team who are leading change within the health care setting and have the following credentials please apply;
- A minimum of 3 years nursing experience
- Previous surgical or critical care experience
- Post-operative management knowledge inclusive of PSIMS, IV opioid and respiratory management is advantageous
- A desire to enable positive change within practice
