About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in the Respiratory Service, you’ll provide safe, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care to people with a wide range of respiratory and medical conditions. You’ll complete comprehensive assessments, plan and evaluate nursing care, deliver clinical interventions, support patient education, and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning.
You’ll work closely with respiratory specialists, the wider medical team, allied health, and whānau to ensure coordinated and culturally responsive care. You will also support safe staffing through Variance Response Management (VRM), play an active role in supporting new staff and students, and contribute to service improvements across the ward.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The Medical/Respiratory Ward at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital cares for patients with conditions such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, bronchiectasis and other acute medical needs. The team is collaborative, supportive and committed to delivering high‑quality care in a learning‑focused environment.

About you
You are a compassionate, skilled nurse with strong clinical and communication skills. You will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
- Excellent teamwork and time‑management skills.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
- A respectful, patient‑centred approach to care.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to equitable health outcomes.
Desired:
- A current PDRP portfolio.
- At least one year of experience in medical or respiratory nursing, or a strong interest in developing in this specialty.
