About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in our Orthopaedic Department, you’ll play a key role in delivering safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care for people undergoing a wide range of acute and planned orthopaedic interventions. Your day‑to‑day work will include comprehensive assessments, care planning, wound care, pain management, mobility support, and monitoring patients as they progress through recovery.

You’ll work collaboratively with surgeons, physiotherapists, allied health teams and fellow nurses to support early mobilisation, restore function, and improve patient outcomes. With a mix of trauma and elective patients, this is a fast‑paced and rewarding clinical environment that offers real variety and opportunities to grow your skills.

This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a team setting, enjoys hands‑on clinical care and wants to contribute to delivering excellent experiences for patients and their whānau.

Our Orthopaedic Service at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital is a skilled and supportive team committed to delivering high‑quality surgical and post‑operative care. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team who value collaboration, continuous learning and a positive working environment.

About you

As a Registered Nurse on the Orthopaedic ward, you bring compassion, strong clinical skills and excellent teamwork. You will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively.
  • Strong time‑management skills and the ability to prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
  • IV designation.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable healthcare.

Desired:

  • Orthopaedic nursing experience.
  • PCA/Epidural certification.
  • Central Venous Line (CVL) certification.
  • NPWT (negative pressure wound therapy) competence.
  • A current PDRP portfolio.
