About the Role.

The Adult and Emergency operating room department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced PACU registered nurse (RN) or anaesthetic technician (AT) to recover complex high-acuity patients in a quaternary perioperative care unit.

Working in our PACU offers a rewarding opportunity to provide critical care to patients recovering from acute and elective general surgery (including colorectal, breast and hepatobiliary), urology, vascular, orthopaedics, neurosurgery (adults and paediatrics), transplantation (kidney, liver and pancreas - adults and paediatrics), trauma and interventional radiology. 

In this role, you will

  • Monitor vital signs, manage post- op pain
  • Assess and support recovery from anaesthesia, and
  • Collaborate closely with surgical teams to ensure safe, effective post-operative care.

The PACU environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. It’s an ideal opportunity for RNs or ATs seeking to specialise in perioperative care, making a direct impact on patient recovery with the potential for career advancement and personal satisfaction.

 About you

To be successful for the role, we are looking for the following:

  • Experienced and dynamic RN or AT ready to hone your acute skills and critical decision making.
  • Minimum of twelve months PACU acute or critical patient care experience post NZ registration
  • Experience in the use of electronic health records and pre-operative checks
  • Excellent communication skills, documentation, critical thinking, and decision making for patient care plans based on previous work experience.

About the Team

Level 8 PACU Auckland City Hospital provides postoperative care for critically ill patients who have experienced severe illness or trauma and require rapid intervention, complex monitoring, assessment, and care planning. Our large perioperative department provides 24/7 surgical care for both planned care and acute patients.

Joining our team will enable you develop your clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise. We are a very supportive team who are great at sharing our experience and are keen to help you achieve your professional goals. We will assist you with furthering your postgraduate study and career progression.
