About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in our Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Unit, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality care to patients undergoing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same – from pre-assessment and admission through to recovery and discharge, you’ll be supporting patients and their whānau through critical points in their healthcare journey.
You will be responsible for coordinating patient care, assisting with endoscopic procedures, monitoring patient safety, and ensuring that clinical standards are upheld. This is a fantastic opportunity to build specialist skills while contributing to a service that truly changes lives.

Our Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Unit is a close-knit, friendly team of experienced nurses, doctors, and technicians who are passionate about improving digestive health in the Hawke’s Bay community. We value teamwork, communication, and a supportive culture where ongoing learning is encouraged.

About you
As a Registered Nurse in our Gastroenterology & Endoscopy team, you’ll be a clinically competent practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced, procedural environment. You will bring a proactive, patient-centred approach and demonstrate the ability to deliver safe, effective care across all stages of endoscopic procedures. You’ll be working in a highly specialised area, so attention to detail, excellent communication, and a strong team ethic are essential.
You will bring:
- A current Annual Practising Certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- At least 2 years of recent clinical experience in acute care nursing – experience in endoscopy, perioperative, medical/surgical, or gastroenterology nursing is highly desirable
- Proven ability to assist with endoscopic procedures (e.g. gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP) or a strong interest in developing these skills
- Excellent clinical judgement, IV competency, and familiarity with patient monitoring equipment
- Knowledge of infection prevention protocols and best practice standards related to invasive procedures
- Strong assessment and patient recovery skills, including the ability to identify and escalate deterioration promptly
- A flexible and adaptive working style with a strong focus on patient safety, documentation, and teamwork
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in quality improvement initiatives
