About the Role

This pilot role is to support nurses in their second year of practice alongside an allied health coach that will be supporting occupational therapists and social workers in their second year of practice ie: a Tuakana- Teina model of practice support. It will be co-led by the Nurse Director and Allied Health Director. The coach would focus on 22 nurses who are now in their second year of practice.

The hours will be Monday to Friday mainly during the day but may include afternoon shifts to provide coaching to the identified nurses.

You will primarily work in the clinical setting and would have a base close to the Nurse Director.

You will be expected to support nurses to develop culturally responsive practices and embed Waiora which includes the following principle and values:

About you

  • Have a passion for helping to build and enhance the confidence and competency of nurses.
  • Have clinical expertise in mental health, addiction conditions.
  • Actively contribute to creating positive learning cultures.
  • Have the ability to develop a nurses reflective practice skills and critical decision making skills.
  • Have an opportunity to use or refine your skills in measuring practice growth change as well as providing coaching, group supervision and education sessions.
  • Have skills in identifying learning needs and developing professional development plan.
  • Have a thorough understanding about the standards of practice for RNs and Mental Health Nursing Practice standards.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with line managers of teams where the early career nurses are practicing.
  • hold a current New Zealand nursing registration and practising certificate with scope to work in mental health.
  • Be able to complete the Safe Practice Effective Communication (SPEC) course.
