About the Role
As a Registered Nurse in the General & Vascular Surgery Unit, you will provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients undergoing a wide range of surgical interventions. Your role will include completing comprehensive assessments, planning and implementing post‑operative care, monitoring patient progress, and responding proactively to changes in condition.
You’ll work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, allied health teams and fellow nurses to ensure safe and effective recovery pathways. From wound care and pain management to preparing patients and whānau for discharge, your contribution will make a real impact at every stage of the surgical journey.
This role suits a nurse who thrives in a fast‑paced clinical setting, enjoys building rapport with patients during acute recovery, and values teamwork and continuous learning.

Our General & Vascular Surgery team at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier’s Hospital is a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary group committed to delivering excellent perioperative and post‑operative care. About you
As a surgical Registered Nurse, you bring strong clinical decision‑making, excellent communication, and a compassionate approach to care. You will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a clinical team.
- Strong time‑management and prioritisation skills in a busy environment.
- Commitment to high‑quality, patient‑centred and culturally safe care.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within health practice.
Desired:
- A current PDRP portfolio.
- Previous experience in surgical, acute, or high‑dependency nursing.
