Join Te Toka Tumai, Auckland as an Interventional Radiologist working in a full time, fixed term position as part of the Northern Regional Interventional Radiology Service. Based at Te Toka Tumai Auckland City Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in New Zealand. The interventional Radiology service includes world class programs in vascular and non-vascular IR and is a recognised leader in clinical trials. Interventional Radiology provides 24-hour care to patients for the Northern Region. The regional service runs across several sites covering Auckland City Hospital, Northshore & Waitemata Hospitals and Northland Hospital.

  • Interventional Radiology oversees in-patient and out-patient care, with dedicated IR out-patient clinics and in-patient management from admission to discharge.
  • Our Interventional Radiology service provides a comprehensive range of procedures, including a busy peripheral vascular program and complex endovascular work performed in a dedicated hybrid suite
  • There is an extensive interventional oncology service including trans-arterial embolisation and image guided ablation using RFA, MWA, Cryoablation, and IRE.
  • Interventional Radiologists lead and attend multi-disciplinary meetings in their areas of interest.
  • Interventional Radiology also provides reporting of non-invasive imaging including vascular MR, CT and US. Auckland City Hospital has the national liver transplant unit and busy renal and lung transplant programs
  • Currently there are three interventional rooms overlapping with neuroradiology. The department runs two concurrent IR Fellows offset by 6 months. There is an extensive redesign program in place to develop a state of the art department.

The Auckland IR and INR service was a pilot site for the new RANZCR Specialist IR training program and will be part of the RANZCR Specialist IR and INR training scheme.

About the Service

The Northern Regional Interventional Radiology Service has a large team of dedicated IR nursing, IR medical imaging technologists, and IR administrative staff focussed on delivering the highest quality of care and maintaining the Auckland as a leader in IR.

There are 8 IR’s across two sites, with 6 IR’s primarily based at Auckland Hospital and 2 IR’s primarily based at Northshore Hospital, with sessions at Auckland City Hospital. When necessary IR’s cover across both sites, with a plan to also cover Northland Hospital. Consultant IR’s are encouraged to develop and lead in areas of special interest.

About you

  • As the ideal person for this role, you will either be registered or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Be a medical practitioner fully registered with the New Zealand Medical Council
  • Ideally, you will also have FRANZCR or a similar Post Graduate Radiology qualification, which can lead to recognition for Vocational Registration by the MCNZ
  • Specialist experience as a Fellowship trained Interventional Radiologist
  • Ideally hold a post-graduate qualification in IR, e.g. EBIR.
