Primary Mental Health Clinician/ Practitioner or Psychologist

Primary Integration & Mental Health & Intervention Service (PRIMHIS) – Mental Health & Addiction Services – Rotorua 

Permanent, Part time (0.4 FTE)

An exciting opportunity has become available to work as a Therapist/ Psychologist and join our passionate Rotorua PRIMHIS team (Primary Integration & Mental Health & Intervention Service).

We are looking for a registered psychologist or psychological therapist who not only embraces our ideals of compassion, manaakitanga & quality evidence based therapy, but also has a passion to use their psychological and relationship building skills to make a difference in the lives of adults & young people aged 15 upwards. We believe in the power of individualised care, psychological understanding, therapeutic alliance & routinely using Feedback Informed Treatment to ensure we provide truly client centred care and meaningful change. 

The role strongly aligns processes with the intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ara Tauwhirotanga model of care. About the Role

  • Providing individualised, high quality and evidence based psychological therapies for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Routine use of Feedback Informed Treatment.
  • Potential to facilitate groups.
  • Working across a range of locations in the Rotorua area.
  • Links with colleagues from other organisations and primary care, such as Health Improvement Practitioners.

PRIMHIS is a small but growing multi-disciplinary team (MDT) of psychologists and other mental health professionals, offering high quality, evidence based, person-centred and accessible brief psychological interventions for people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. We pride ourselves on our compassionate and collaborative approach to providing the highest quality therapy and the use of feedback informed treatment to ensure client experience and preference guides our work. We know that to provide the best therapeutic care we must also extend that manaakitanga to each other through team support and professional development.

Core Service hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am-4.30 pm however there is the possibility of alternative hours to join our evening clinics.

Mō Koe/ About you

  • You could be an experienced clinician with proven therapy skills, looking for a new challenge, or possibly more newly qualified but with a growth mindset and highly motivated to develop your therapy and formulation skills.
  • You will have training and experience in evidence based talking therapies, ideally brief psychological interventions. 
  • You will have the ability to formulate and adapt your approach to the unique situation, needs, age and cultural identity of the individual.
  • You will be a motivated and reliable clinician with ability to work autonomously in a role that requires high level relational skills with clients, whanau and colleagues.
  • You will be a registered health or social care professional with a current APC (or are eligible for and seeking registration)
  • You will hold a current full clean NZ driver’s license and meet requirements for the children’s worker safety checks.
  • You will ideally have competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
