About the Role

Join our dynamic and supportive pharmacy team at Waikato Hospital, focusing on providing high-quality pharmaceutical care within our oncology, haematology and compounding service. In this rotational role, you will gain hands-on experience primarily within the oncology and haematology wards and our cytotoxic compounding unit, with additional exposure to other pharmacy areas, enhancing your skills and knowledge.

Your work will directly impact patient outcomes, providing critical support to those undergoing cancer, haematological and immunotherapy treatments. We are committed to your growth, offering mentorship, ongoing training, and full funding for your APC and contribution towards professional membership fees.

 

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Deliver clinical pharmacy services in the oncology and haematology wards, including medication review, patient counselling, and participation in multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Work in our cytotoxic compounding unit, ensuring the safe preparation and quality control of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications.
  • Contribute to the safe use of medicines team, participating in medication safety initiatives and clinical trials.
  • Engage in professional and clinical development, supported by mentors and supervisors.
  • Participate in occasional weekend shifts, with opportunities for the on-call roster, compensated with penal or overtime rates.

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the Te Whatu Ora/APEX Pharmacy Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include KiwiSaver contributions (if eligible), professional development and wellness support

Te Whatu Ora Waikato Pharmacy Service provides comprehensive pharmacy services to Waikato Hospital and rural hospitals, with a strong focus on high-quality patient care. Our team is integral to the healthcare system, ensuring safe medication use across a wide range of clinical areas. As a member of our team, you will be part of a service that supports cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials, including a specialised cytotoxic compounding suite.

 

About you

Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:

Essential

  • Registration with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
  • A current annual practising certificate with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand.
  • Ideally, having experience in oncology, haematology and or compounding services, however new graduates, including those from community backgrounds, are welcome to apply.

Desirable

  • Experience in oncology, haematology, or cytotoxic compounding.
  • Hospital-level experience.
  • Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.
  • Current New Zealand driver’s license.
