About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Health New Zealand - Te Matau a Māui as a Payroll Systems Specialist. As a vital part of the Payroll & People and Communications team, you will work closely with HR and stakeholders to deliver a professional, accurate and efficient payroll service. Join our team and play a crucial role in the health system at a local level.

We have a vacancy for someone who is passionate and keen to work in a complex environment, who can appreciate that payroll is not just pushing buttons, using AMS Leader payroll systems.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You’ll be joining a close-knit, collaborative payroll team based at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldier’s Memorial Hospital. Reporting to the Transition Lead, you’ll work alongside experienced payroll professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality services across the district. The team has strong ties to the Corporate and People & Culture Directorates and values integrity, responsiveness, and continuous improvement - making it an ideal environment for someone who thrives on systems thinking, teamwork, and making a meaningful impact.

About you

As a Payroll Systems Specialist, key responsibilities include:

  • Provide a senior level of technical and functional support and advice for payroll applications.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for all payroll applications.
  • Implement changes within the system to align with current collective agreements
  • Test, sign off and Implement system upgrades from AMS.
  • Ensure AMS system users have correct access
  • Liaise with system vendor for issue resolution
  • Ensure payroll system is compliant with the Holidays Act 2003
  • Actively seek to improve payroll processes

With relevant previous experience dealing with complex systems and processes, you will be able to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in your work, excellent processing skills and an eye for process improvement.

You communicate effectively and are most comfortable in hardworking, collaborative teams. You take the initiative to do the things that need doing, while managing multiple priorities.
