About the role

Starship Child Health has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced senior social worker to apply for a Practice Supervisor role.

The Practice Supervisor demonstrates advanced/senior level clinical practice, supports the team members with the management of complex cases and demonstrates effective clinical reasoning and models evidence-informed practice. The Practice Supervisor demonstrates proven leadership and clinical competence and work collaboratively with the Paediatric Social Work Clinical Lead.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Paediatric Social Work team cover inpatients and outpatients at Starship and also have a key role at Te Puaruruhau, the Auckland Regional Child Protection team, providing services to the wider Auckland region and supporting the national services at Starship Hospital.

The Paediatric Social Work team provides psychosocial assessment and intervention to support successful adaptation to hospitalisation and diagnosis. We also support people during periods of grief, loss and relationship support; family violence assessment and intervention, crisis intervention and the management of difficult and complex family situations. Services are provided from Monday to Friday and an on-call weekend service is a critical part of overall service delivery.

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work
  • Registration and current APC
  • A total of 7 years’ postgraduate social work experience
  • Relevant clinical post graduate certificate/diploma (PG Dip) or equivalent
  • Appropriate supervision training or progress towards completion.
  • Proven supervision, mentoring, coaching and clinical leadership skills.
  • Experience providing adult teaching and knowledge of appropriate educating skills.
  • A passion and drive for Paediatric social work assessment and continuous improvement in the field of child protection social work
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills
