About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Orthodontic Auxiliary to join our Auckland Regional Hospital & Specialist Dentistry Service.

This permanent, part-time role is a key supporting role for our Orthodontists or dentists providing Orthodontic care in clinics, predominantly at Middlemore Hospital with the expectation to travel across sites as service required.

Your role will encompass:

  • Chairside assisting for the Orthodontists/dentists in clinics
  • Working collaboratively with clinicians on implementation of treatment plan and provide administrative support for high quality of care
  • Undertake delegated orthodontic procedures for patients independently as per Dental Council of New Zealand competencies for Orthodontic Auxiliary
  • Following all Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Practice Standards as per Dental Council of
  • New Zealand IPC Practice Standard
  • Preparing instruments for reprocessing and sterilization process
  • There will be opportunity for project work and continuing education

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Hospital & Specialist Dentistry Services provide specialised dental care to adults and children across the Northern region, including but not limited to Middlemore Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre, Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, Waitakere Hospital, Buckland Road Community Dental Clinic, and Quay Park Specialist Day Hospital.

About you

As the ideal person for this role you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • New Zealand Registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand as an Orthodontic Auxiliary with a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Preferably 3+ years proven experience in Orthodontic Auxiliary.
  • Good understanding of the practical application of infection prevention and control procedures in dental practice
  • Excellent clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary bicultural environment
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • A flexible, pro-active approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
