About the Role

Applications are invited for 6–12-month full-time positions as Obstetrics & Gynaecology house officers at Whangarei Hospital.

The O&G department has eight senior medical officers, supported by three advanced trainees and seven house officers.

Tai Tokerau-Northland is the most northern region of New Zealand, covering a large geographical area. There are many challenges and opportunities, with high rates of deprivation and chronic disease. There are about 2000 births annually in the region. A third of the Northland population identify as Māori. The O&G department and the health district have a strong commitment to supporting Te Tiriti o Waitangi, improving equity, and building public health services.

The O&G house officers are on a 1 in 7 roster, covering long days, nights and weekends, along with attendance at Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics and assisting in theatre. House officers work closely with the senior doctors, and this post provides good opportunities to develop clinical skills, build confidence and learn surgical procedures. Many of our RMOs complete the O&G Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma and this post provides a good foundation for vocational training in O&G.
