About the role
We have a permanent, full-time position available for an exceptional, forward thinking senior nurse who is flexible, resilient and can manage a busy workload.
This role is split 0.5 FTE Adult Emergency Department and 0.5 FTE Children’s Emergency Department (Starship Child Health).
This role will incorporate advanced knowledge and skills and practise both independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals.
In this role you will:
- provide a wide range of assessments and treatments interventions, including differential diagnoses, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- administering therapies for the management of health needs for patients.
- work in partnership with individuals, families, whānau and communities across a wide range of settings.
- demonstrate leadership as part of the Emergency Department senior nursing team.

About the Team
The Adult Emergency Department (AED) at Te Toka Tumai is a major referral centre caring for over 80,000 adult patients per year, with the department actively committed to growth, upskilling and research. The AED team proactively responds to deteriorating patients in a focused manner as well as provide clear escalation pathways and response. This role supports the Emergency teams to manage patient care along with meeting key KPIs for shorter stays in ED.
The Starship Children’s Emergency Department is the only dedicated Emergency Department in New Zealand designed to focus exclusively on the needs of children. We specialise in meeting the needs of acutely ill or injured children and young people ranging from birth to 15 years of age and we see approximately 40,000 children and young people per year.
About you
To be successful in this role you will:
- demonstrate an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in your role
- have obtained an approved clinical Master’s degree
- have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an Emergency care department
- have a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- Have attained Nurse Practitioner certification in New Zealand
