About the Team/Service/ Location

Te Whetu Tawera is Te Toka Tumai Auckland’s Acute Mental Health Unit for Adults. It has 58 beds, which includes 12 Intensive Care Unit beds. The unit is located alongside the Auckland Domain with views of Auckland Harbour. It is unique in that it is very flexible in function with spaces and rooms able to be reconfigured and used according to patients' needs. The Acute Mental Health Unit was gifted a Māori name, Te Whetu Tawera, which translates as 'the evening star'.

 About the role

 An opportunity exists for a motivated and capable Registered Nurse to join the mental health and addictions senior nursing leadership team as an Inpatient Nurse Consultant. The role will cover our five inpatient units with the primary base being at Te Whetu Tawera. 

  The Nurse Consultant role is accountable for promoting, developing and implementing evidence-based practice for nursing to improve clinical effectiveness. 

 This role will be responsible for leading the nursing implementation of the quality strategy improvement programmes and initiatives across the Directorate in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

This role recognises nursing’s contribution within Mental Health and a strong framework of support will be provided to the successful applicant. 

Important Skills 

 You will be a Registered Comprehensive (with PG Cert in MH) or Psychiatric Nurse with previous experience in nursing leadership roles in mental health services. You will have a high level of understanding of the continuum of care and a commitment to the fundamental values and attitudes of modern mental health service delivery and be able to robustly evidence application of this in the clinical context.
