Are you an experienced senior registered nurse with a passion for equity, quality and excellence? We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated perioperative nurse to join our team as Nurse Consultant

About the Role

This is a senior clinical role that combines expert perioperative nursing practice with leadership in quality improvement, equity, and workforce development. The focus of this role is intraoperative.

This position will suit a registered nurse (RN) who is passionate about improving outcomes for patients, strengthening perioperative practice standards, and embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi across service delivery.

This is a permanent role working 0.8 FTE, Monday to Sunday .

The roles involve working with the Nurse Director and the wider directorates to promote and coordinate a culture of equity, excellence, and continuous quality improvement.

In this role you will:

  • Be supported by a dynamic and experienced team
  • Demonstrate expert intraoperative clinical practice, working alongside teams in theatre
  • Lead and support quality and safety initiatives across perioperative services
  • Champion equitable access, experience, and outcomes for all patients, with a focus on Māori health equity
  • Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into perioperative care, education, and service design
  • Support evidence-based practice, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and develop perioperative nurses and interdisciplinary colleagues
  • Contribute to service planning, policy development, and clinical governance
  • Work collaboratively at a ward, service and directorate level
  • Provide professional and clinical advice
  • Develop new skills within the realm of quality, patient safety and culture change.
  • Act as a resource for clinical staff to ensure that systems and processes are in place to support our patients and whanau undergoing perioperative care

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Relevant clinical experience as an expert/senior RN
  • Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma or Masters in specialty nursing practice.
  • Advanced knowledge within intraoperative nursing
  • A passion towards quality improvement and patient safety and committed to health equity and culturally safe practice.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and lead practice change.
