About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, visionary and strategic Mental Health Nurse with an authentic leadership style and outstanding interpersonal skills to lead and foster a culture of professional nursing excellence through continuous quality improvement activities across the mental health and addictions directorate.
The Nurse Consultant role provides a unique opportunity to lead and contribute to enhanced standards of care across Kāhui o te Ihi Mental Health and Addictions directorate. The role facilitates autonomy and encourages creativity, whilst prioritising contemporary evidenced based practice. It presents an opportunity to work with directorate leadership to set the strategic direction.
This role is responsible for providing professional advice, and scholarly support and education for nursing and other clinical staff in the Directorate and across Te Toka Tumai to ensure patients and their families receive quality care. The role also contributes to the strategic direction of nursing for the Directorate.
The Nurse Consultant will be required to lead nursing portfolio or project responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse Director; this will be achieved by:
- Identifying and leading quality improvement initiatives that ensure the effective quality of care and patient safety
- Contributing and leading work to maintain current certification standards in line with the organisation’s strategic plan
- Participation in Directorate Quality and Safety Programme
This role is also responsible for reporting on patient outcome trends and gaps in care delivery, monitoring nursing-sensitive indicators and patient experience data.

About the Team/Service/ Location
You will be based in the Pro Care building on Grafton road. You will work closely with Community Services leadership and the Directorate Leadership Team. You will report to the Nurse Director
About you
To be a successful applicant for this role you must meet the below minimum requirements:
- Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ)
- Evidence of competence to practice within the Registered Nurse scope of practice
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- 5 years post-graduate qualification Nursing in speciality practice area, health or equivalent.
- Leadership, management and communication skills
