Puawai Aroha Maternity Unit in Tairāwhiti is seeking passionate and dedicated midwives to join our team.
In this role, you will join a supportive and experienced maternity team in a culturally rich region. As a new graduate midwife we will provide you with a comprehensive onboarding and supportive orientation programme, individually tailored to your needs, led by our Clinical Coach and Midwifery Educator. You will have fantastic opportunities to work alongside and become a part of our highly skilled and professional team.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Our close-knit maternity team is dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality care with warmth and compassion. We work collaboratively across all services and value cultural connection as a cornerstone of our care.
We provide primary and secondary care to whānau in Tairāwhiti. We support approximately 650 births per year ranging from normal and low-risk to complex and high-needs.
We have a team of 5 obstetricians and we work closely with our nursing and paediatricians colleagues in the level 2 NNU. We all work collegially so that we can improve outcomes for mums and babies and have strong organisational values of:

About you
As a New Graduate Registered Midwife you must:
- have completed your midwifery education in New Zealand in 2025
- be a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident
be eligible to enrol in the Midwifery First Year of Practice program.Working at Health New Zealand
