Health New Zealand - Counties Manukau Radiology is located in South Auckland across Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Children's Hospital and Manukau Health Park (MHP) and is at the forefront of innovative health care delivery with the New Zealand Public Health Sector. Middlemore Hospital includes the National Burns Centre and is a major trauma hospital specialising in spinal and plastics. Our busy department serves a diverse community and is rapidly growing with planned expansion, including new premises at MHP opening in 2026.
Our Radiology department is large and diverse with state of the art medical imaging equipment that includes:
- 3 MRI Scanners 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners (4 from mid-2026)
- 13 General x-ray rooms, all with DR
- Two dedicated Angiography suites
- A specialist Radiology Theatre service
- Five CT scanners performing acute and elective CT scans, including Cardiac CT
- 2 Cardiac Catheter suites

About the Role
We have three casual positions available to help support our growing MRI service with 8-hour shifts available on weekends and weekdays. You will be required to hold a APC in the MRI scope of practice with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board.
Weekends shifts target additional capacity for outpatients with weekdays extended to include emergency, ward and critical care patients. You will be given orientation on protocols and department systems so that you can interpret referrals and apply your clinical decision-making skills to adapt imaging to produce high-quality diagnostic MRI imaging.
About the Team/Service/ Location
We currently have 3 MRI scanners located on or near the Middlemore Hospital campus with accommodation planned to open in July 2026 for outpatients at Manukau Health Park.
Our permanent MITs working in MRI get to retain their MIT scope of practice. The staff and trainees are clinically supported in the modality by a 2IC and Modality Lead, reporting to the MIT Team Leader.
