About the Team/Service/ Location

Supporting families through perinatal loss requires a special kind of midwife -one who brings deep compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to respectful and holistic care. In this role, your primary focus will be coordinating clinical care for the birthing person and whānau during their birth, and in the weeks that follow while also undertaking key organisational, management, and educational responsibilities.

You will act as a single point of contact for the care and management of the tūpāpaku and whenua, including coordination with histology services (as consented) and the return of these to whānau. You will also provide ongoing follow-up and support, including counselling coordination, serve as the liaison between Waitematā and the National Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee (PMMRC), and educate and support staff working with whānau experiencing perinatal loss.

Our maternity service is committed to providing compassionate, culturally safe, and whānau-centred care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting families with respect, dignity, and professionalism during some of their most vulnerable moments.

This role is based at North Shore Hospital.

About You

You will be an experienced and empathetic clinician with a strong commitment to culturally responsive practice. You will also have:

· Registration as a Midwife in New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate

· A minimum of 5 years’ post-registration midwifery experience, including perinatal loss care

· Postgraduate study (preferred) relevant to midwifery or bereavement care

· Demonstrated cultural awareness and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles

· A compassionate, flexible, and collaborative approach, with excellent attention to detail and ethical practice
