About the Role and Team

Step into a role where your clinical expertise and passion for women‑centred care truly make an impact. We are looking for a dedicated midwifery professional to enhance our maternity services and support seamless, high‑quality care across outpatient and inpatient settings. The role entails working closely with our administrator to provide clinical guidance, ensuring timely referral processing, smart prioritisation and scheduling. Digital file preparation includes the preparation and maintaining of accurate digital clinical records. Deliver midwifery support within obstetric antenatal clinics, contributing to safe, compassionate, and efficient care. Collaborating with the Health NZ Lakes Maternity Multidisciplinary Team to coordinate outpatient services for women ensuring referrals, follow‑ups, and investigations are completed promptly so women move smoothly through their care pathway. Providing high‑quality midwifery care within the employed setting when required, ensuring consistent high-quality care. 

About the Service/ Location

Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora Lakes provides healthcare from its two modern and progressive general hospitals in Rotorua and Taupō, New Zealand. Rotorua Hospital is a medium-sized secondary Maternity Service and Taupō Maternity is a primary unit. Our maternity services provide care for birthing women in the Lakes region, with around 1350 births taking place in our facilities per annum. Women requiring tertiary level care are transferred out.  Midwives can work across their scope of practice by providing care to ante and postnatal inpatients and outpatients and work alongside their midwife LMC colleagues to provide secondary intrapartum care. We pride ourselves on being quality and improvement focussed with whānau always at the forefront of our care.

About you

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate midwifery professional committed to delivering exceptional, whānau‑centred care. If you are a Registered Midwife, currently hold a full Practising Certificate with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and ideally have recent outpatient experience, we would love to hear from you.

You will bring:

  • Strong people skills and clear communication — written and verbal.
  • In addition to BadgerNet, confidence with digital tools including Word, Excel, and new systems.
  • Great time management and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying its principles meaningfully in your role.
  • Collaborative leadership — lifting team performance and contributing to organisational goals.
