About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Midwife to join our education team at Health New Zealand Waitematā, where you will play a key role in supporting and developing our midwifery workforce.

As a Midwife Clinical Coach, you will work closely with new graduate midwives, new staff, Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), and midwives on the Return to Practice (RTP) programme.

You will support midwives who require clinical skill refreshment and guide RTP midwives to transition into confident, competent practitioners within the maternity setting. Working in a supernumerary capacity, you will promote a positive learning environment that supports clinical skill development, reduces staff stress, and contributes to improved staff retention.

Our maternity service is committed to providing compassionate, culturally safe, and whānau-centred care. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting families with respect, dignity, and professionalism during some of their most vulnerable moments.

This role is based at North Shore Hospital.

About You

You will be an experienced and empathetic clinician with a strong commitment to culturally responsive practice. You will also have:

As a Senior Midwife / Midwife Clinical Coach, you will bring strong clinical expertise and a passion for supporting others to grow in their practice. You will have:

  • Registration as a Midwife with at least 5 years’ post-qualification clinical experience
  • A current Annual Practising Certificate with no conditions
  • Active engagement in the Midwifery Council Recertification Programme
  • Completion of the NZCOM preceptor or mentor training course
  • Completion of, or participation in, postgraduate education
  • A strong emphasis on normal birth and positive birthing experiences (desirable)
