Mental Health Nurse – Co-Response Team

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Nurse who is a current DAO warranting to join our Co-Response Team, working in partnership with New Zealand Police.
This role focuses on supporting tangata whaiora and their whānau during times of crisis in a way that is safe, culturally responsive, and guided by least-restrictive practice.
Your key responsibilities for this role will be:
- Attend community callouts alongside Police
- Complete comprehensive mental health and risk assessments
- Undertake DAO statutory functions under the Mental Health Act
- Provide clinical advice and de-escalation support to Police staff
- Facilitate safe referrals and transitions to crisis, community, or inpatient services
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
About the Team/Service/ Location
Although employed within Ihi Ora CMHC, based in Grafton, the Co-Response Team will work from the College Hill Police Station as part of a frontline co-response model. You will attend mental health callouts in the community alongside Police, undertake clinical and risk assessments, and carry out statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.

About you
To be a successful applicant, you must meet the below essential requirements:
- Current NZ Registered Nurse Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Approved and warranted DAO status
- Experience in acute and/or community mental health settings
- Sound working knowledge of NZ mental health legislation
- Strong assessment, decision-making, and communication skills
- A full, clean NZ driver licence
- Availability to work rostered shifts
