About Us

The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons. 

We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland.

About the Role

Our team is diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary and dedicated to providing modern, evidence based expert forensic care to our population. As part of the team, you’ll be assigned to one of the inpatient units working closely with service users at various stages of recovery, providing assistance and following direction from registered nurses, helping to implement nursing interventions, help to maintain a safe environment and assisting with recreational and vocational activities in order to get the best outcome for the service user.

About You

We are looking for a Mental Health Care Assistant to work with service users experiencing complex mental health problems. You will be confident relating to, and dealing with people who can at times demonstrate difficult or challenging behaviours. Therefore, having good verbal communication skills, being calm under pressure and demonstrating resilience is essential. It is also important that you have enthusiasm for working within mental health, are self-motivated, energetic and have a positive attitude.

Preferred

  • National Certificate in Mental Health or equivalent
  • Previous experience in mental health care or care giving
  • Ability to identify own stress/coping mechanisms
