About Gisborne

On the easternmost edge of the North Island, facing the Pacific Ocean, Gisborne is known as the first city in the world to see the sunrise.

The region is bordered by rugged mountain ranges to the west and long, sweeping beaches to the east, with Tauranga the closest major city a few hours away.

This is the kind of place where people come for a job and stay for the lifestyle. Imagine yourself here……….

  • We have sunshine, so much sunshine! And coastline that feel endless — morning surfs, evening swims, and beaches that never feel crowded.
  • A deep Māori cultural heartbeat, where te ao Māori isn’t an add‑on but part of everyday life. Be ready to feel welcomed by hospitality rarely felt elsewhere.
  • Our hospital is a tight-knit, welcoming community that values connection, generosity, and looking after one another.
  • Our countryside is full of fresh produce, vineyards, and local food that make even simple meals feel special.

Here you’ll experience a slower, more intentional pace, giving you space to breathe, think, and reconnect with what matters.
