About the Role
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will contribute as an effective member of the Te Tai Tokerau Pathology Services team, to provide a quality & safe pathology service that ensures timely, accurate results to pathology laboratory users. Participate in the receipt, documentation, registration, processing and reporting of all specimens, including those referred to other laboratories, as required by authorized policies and protocols.
You will also be required to perform other technical and operational duties normally expected of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS such as those involving quality and safety or the efficient and effective operations of the laboratory service). Take an active lead role within the department overseeing the main Histology laboratory and co-ordinating with the Head of Department for Anatomical Pathology.

About the Team/Service/Location
Our team consists of scientists, technicians, pathologists and secretaries who all provide a vital role within Anatomical Pathology in order to achieve the correct diagnosis for the patients. We are a friendly team who look out for each other and socialise together. The laboratory has just moved into a purpose-built state of the art facility providing an airy and spacious environment for our team to enjoy together, situated near some of the best beaches in New Zealand.

About you
- New Zealand Registered and licenced Medical Laboratory Scientist
- Work experience in a Medical Laboratory Anatomical Pathology department
- Work experience with Laboratory Information system
- Ability to apply high-level scientific judgement to perform, interpret various sample types
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
Desirable
- A basic understanding of health/illness and prevention of infection
- Previous experience within a Healthcare setting
- Experience working in an Anatomical Pathology department including knowledge of microtomy, dissection and Immunohistochemistry
