Waitemata's Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Services is the largest provider of Mental Health Services in New Zealand. The catchment area includes North Shore City, West Auckland and a large rural population in Rodney.
Maternal Mental Health is a small, specialist tertiary multidisciplinary mental health team that provides a service to parents who are pregnant (2nd trimester onwards) or have a baby under 12 months of age and have developed a moderate to severe mental health illness related to the experience of pregnancy, childbirth and/or the adjustment to parenting.
We offer assessment and various interventions including but not limited to psychological input, respite care and mother baby unit admissions. We also work collaboratively with our colleagues across other mental health services to offer specialist advice to whaiora who are under their care and are in the perinatal period.

The service operates a clinical governance model and there are opportunities to be involved in service development, service planning and quality improvement initiatives.
Teaching and supervision of junior doctors/students and clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team are core functions for our Consultant Psychiatrists.
