About the Role
- Up to 0.7 FTE, permanent role
Are you a passionate Lactation Consultant committed to supporting breastfeeding outcomes for women? This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive maternity team where your specialist skills will make a meaningful difference to women/people, theirpēpi, and their whānau. Our inpatient lactation consultant service is central to providing ongoing postnatal education and support, and your expertise will be valued as an integral part of the maternity wards.
About the Team/Service/ Location
As a Lactation Consultant, you will provide specialist breastfeeding assessment, education and management for mothers, parentsand their newborns within the maternity wards at Waitākere Hospital. You will support people experiencing breastfeeding challenges, promote evidence-based practice, and empower whānau throughout the postnatal period.
Working closely with midwives, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to achieving positive feeding outcomes and continuity of care. This role requires postgraduate experience supporting breastfeeding mothers and newborns in a hospital setting and includes some weekend work. There is also the opportunity to contribute to parent education, with an adult teaching qualification or experience delivering education sessions being desirable.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our maternity team is committed to delivering safe, high-quality, woman/whānau-centred care in a collaborative and supportive environment. The inpatient lactation consultant service plays a key role in enhancing breastfeeding success and strengthening education for both staff and parents.
This role is based at Waitakere Hospital. Ability to work shifts, including weekend work is essential. A smaller FTE will be considered for the right candidate.
About You
You will bring specialist knowledge, compassion and strong clinical skills to support mothers, parents, and newborns.
- Current International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
- Current Midwifery or Nursing Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Postgraduate experience working with breastfeeding mothers and newborns in a hospital setting
- Experience providing education to parents; an adult teaching qualification is desirableWillingness to participate in weekend work as part of the roster
